The City Prolific: Weekend Events August 10 - 11

Apologies for my silence the last two weekends. I was in Hawaii on a research project. Posts on Honolulu and Waikiki coming soon. Here in LA, this weekend looks like most summer weekends - outdoor screenings all across town.

SATURDAY, AUGUST 10

Cinespia presents Cabaret

Liza, I love you. In Bob Fosse’s film about a cabaret singer in the Weimer days of Berlin, Liza sizzles - SIZZLES! - as Sally Bowles.  Bring your picnic, your booze, and your best Bowles wig. Oh, and those eyelashes.

An epic bowling saga with Woody Harrelson, Bill Murray & Randy Quaid. This one'll be fun.

Feel free to bring a picnic, but there will be food trucks galore.

Street Food Cinema presents Swingers

The quintessential LA movie. Seriously, you don't realize how much people rely on this film for their entire sense of LA humor until you move here. Everyone quotes from it all the time.

The Tubes at Pershing Square

Again, bring a picnic and camp out at Pershing Square to see The Tubes. Their live shows have involved "mock bondage rituals, simulated sex, 12-foot high rock stars by the name of Quay Lude singing ‘White Punks On Dope’, exploding televisions, chainsaws and an array of semi-clad dancers." Hm. Fun.

The Ecuadorian community in Los Angeles celebrates their Independence Day at La Placita Olvera across the street from Union Station.  The 15th Annual Parade starts at 11:00am on Broadway & 7th St. going north on Broadway until Temple St. then Main St., ending at La Placita Olvera.
