The City Prolific: Weekend Events Aug 31 - Sep 2

Labor Day weekend in many cities is often pretty quiet, as everyone hits the road. Not so in LA.  There is tons to do. This list is just a smattering.

FRIDAY, AUGUST 21

LA is drawing a blank tonight. Nothing going on. Am I wrong? Did I miss something? Submit your event here.

For Wild Up's second large-scale concert as Hammer Museum Orchestra in Residence, they're presenting a Brandenburg Cycle. From the website: there will be virtuosic strings and screaming piccolo trumpets, baritone saxophones and an electric bassoon. Join us for this end of summer concert in the courtyard of the Hammer. The Secret Trails and Woodland Cocktails Club

Machine Project hosts a guided hike on the little known trails of an area they like to call Runyon Canyon Adjacent: All of the great views and sweet smelling sage of Runyon, none of the crowds and dogs in baby strollers.

Post-hike, you'll rehydrate with sage-infused Campari punch and entertainment in a mysterious dwelling/succulent garden in a hidden canyon.  Ooh. This is so up my alley, I'm salivating.

The hike will be led by David Fenster and the cocktail party will be hosted by D’Arcy F-M.

From the website:

Wear actual hiking shoes – trail runners or boots. These trails are seldom used and are not in great shape. Some sections are very steep and gravelly.
Bring plenty of water. It will be a steep strenuous hike.
