The cherry trees and jacaranda's are a blossom, as we near summer in LA: the season of outdoor festivals and screenings. This weekend's events are a little taste of what's to come. Most everyone's at Coachella this weekend, but I for one am glad I'm not, or I'd miss Sunday's event . . .

Held at the Sunset/Gower Studios, this event is a good reason to hang out on the backlot, and hobnob with up and coming directors and filmmakers. I've met some really cool people at these events. A pre-reception before each screening ensures that everyone is good and toasty before the films begin.

KCRW & Helms Bakery Present: A Celebration of Design & Architecture in L.A
KCRW and Helms Bakery celebrate the launch of Pacific Standard Time Presents: Modern Architecture in L.A. -- the newest initiative from the Getty with an afternoon of festivities at the historical Helms Bakery in Culver City.
The program features conversations with the heads of LACMA, MOCA and the Getty, as well as Good Food's Evan Kleiman, Sang and Sherry.
There will be music curated by KCRW DJ Liza Richardson and a pop-up art gallery of LA contemporary design. The accalaimed Father's Office and Let's Be Frank food truck will be on hand for food and libations.
$10 a panel ($15 for both)
ticket price includes a Father's Office beer or one of Sherry Yard's famous cookies.

Downtown Burbank Arts Festival
Did you know there was a Downtown Burbank? Either did I. Today, its streets will be packed with digital artists, street painters, sculptors, photographers and more than 12,000 art lovers on four blocks of San Fernando Boulevard between Magnolia Boulevard and Olive Avenue. One entire block will be devoted to animation and visual EFX artists from feature films, video games and television series, in homage to Burbank's reputation as Animation Capital of the World.

Twin Peaks Retrospective
I'm freaking out about this a little bit. USC presents a Twin Peaks Retrospective, showing three episodes on the big screen. Tomorrow, the line-up includes episodes 2.20 and 2.21, followed by the series finale, episode 2.22. I've been watching Twin Peaks on Netflix over the last year, and have yet to see the series finale. WHAT BETTER WAY than to see it on the big screen? Eeek! The screenings will be followed by a Q&A with Julee Cruise, Sherilyn Fenn, David Patrick Kelly, and Kyle MacLachlan! OMG! FREAKING OUT!
